Fishing Report 03/02/10

Thanks Mike & Cindy B. from Kansas for sending me this fishing report yesterday afternoon!

“We have been catching over a 100 fish a day, many of them 4 lbs. and over.  We have been using blue watermelon Zoom lizards, watermelon lizards, tequila sunrise lizards, 10″ watermelon worms and 10″ tequila sunrise worms.  We have also been catching large numbers of fish on 1/2 oz. chartreuse and white spinner baits with silver colorado blades and gold willow blades.  The fish have been right off the bank out to about 20 ft. deep.  The spawn is over so the fish have been hungry and hitting hard.”

Testimonials

You may recognize Colby Simms of Simms Outdoors in this photo.  Colby visited Lake Mateos in early February and here is what he had to say, “Just wanted to say thanks again for a great time.  We are going to really begin pushing your lodge through our outfitting business and plan to make it our number 2 feature location, second only to our primary location on our home waters of southern Illinois.”DSC00219

Fish on Bed

Fish have definately gone to bed.  Catches ranging from 70 to 100 per day weighing up to 7 pounds.  Top water action fantastic!

Fish Beginning to Bed

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Numbers have dropped from 100 to 24 – 75 per day, but average size has gone up with many 4 to 6 pound fish being caught.  Water temperature is 74 degrees and clear to 4 ft.  The bite is aggressive as fish are moving to bedding areas.  Rat-L-Trap, buzz baits and spinner baits are producing most fish.

“Repeat fish are going on bed – fishermen need to get down here, bedding will last about 6 weeks.”

This just in from J.C. Galloway, Owner/Operator Lake Mateos Bass Lodge!

Great Trip!

Thanks M.S. and group for fishing with us and sharing this fishing report and photos!  “Didn’t get the big one again!”  “I think most of the 8+ pounders are fish stories, especially when they didn’t weigh them!  Here are some pics of my big fish.  I will be back again!”

M.S. – have photos coming of some big ones – more than 8 + pounds!  Stay tuned:)  Teri

Mateos Bass2

10.5 Pounder Caught on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010

Fishing good today, weather good with a light breeze.  Catches running 50 to 100 per boat.  Largest fish caught was 10.5 pounder using Rat-L-Trap.  Second most popular bait was spinner baits.

Water level about 50% and clear to 5 ft.  A lot of 4 to 6 pound fish caught – photos to come this week:)

9 Pounder Caught Friday, Feb. 5, 2010

Catches continue to run 35 to 100 per boat, one of our father/son teams left yesterday having caught 500 bass in 6 days.  Mostly used spinner baits and Rat-L-Trap.

Poppers and buzz baits continue to produce with most fish in 5 to 15 ft. of water.  Weather perfect, water clear to 5 ft., and 2 ft. in the river.

Largest fish caught on Friday was 9 pounds by C. Simms!

Up to 100 Per Boat!

Thursday, February 4th was a good day on Lake Mateos with clear skies and a high of 76 degrees and light winds.  Water temperature was 74 degrees and water level at 50%.  There were 7 boats on the water with catches from 35 to 100 per boat.  The big fish of the day weighed 7 pounds and was caught on buzz bait.

Poppers, Spinner Baits and Rat-L-Traps along with Sinco’s and Plastic Worms were also good producers of fish.

4 Fishermen – 118 Fish

Fishing report for Tuesday, February 3rd, 2010 – 4 fishermen caught 118 fish up to 5 pounds.  Rat-L-Trap, Grubs, Spinner Baits and Poppers were the lures of choice by the fish today.  Fishing was slow as the rain moved in causing some fishermen to come in early.  Most fish were caught with a very slow presentation in 5 to 20 feet of water.  Lake level is at about 50%.  Water clear to 7 ft. even in overcast skies (all day).  More rain expected for Wednesday.  Sorry guys must report the good, bad and ugly.  Teri
