Fishing Report April 11 – 23 2008

I Just got back from Lake Mateos Bass lodge on 4/24/08. The fishing started off slow the first week with catches running 25 to 75 per boat with some running a little more. Size was good with several fish weighing in at 8 pounds. On the 13th my big fish was 10 pounds, along with about 50 others.  I was shooting for a 200 day but 102 was the best I could get (with a 4 hour break). On the 19th-22nd we had 16 fishermen, one lady on the lake with a total of about 2,500 Bass  caught, several in the eight and nine pound range. Now considering we took a three to four hour lunch and siesta break thats not too bad. The weather is great but it is startng to warm up. But we fish till dark.  Spinner baits, rattle traps, poppers and worms are getting the most hits. However, two of our guests were fly fishermen and they had a ball catching large bass on flyrods. The fishing seasion is coming to an end, but we still have some openings so come on down.   The lower the lake gets the more the topwater action increases.  The food and staff are great, and the rooms are cold. The 2 most common comment on the lake is we have the best topwater action most fishermen have ever seen and the lake is beautiful.

Fishing Report April 8th. 2008

The weather, food and service are fantastic at lake Mateos bass Lodge.  The Bass are hitting harder again with catches running 120 to 125 per boat, per day. Largest Bass 11 pounds, on a 10 inch worm, ( Way to go Roy). Fish are at 5 to 30 feet in depth, Hitting spinner baits, Whacky worms, 10 inch June bug worms and poppers. Lake is at 50%. Color Dinge with visability to 5 feet.       FLASH!!!    No more reports will be coming in until the 24th. As I have had enough! I am going to Lake Mateos for myself and see if I can top 200 a day by myself with some really big Bass. Come on Down, and FISH HARD, eat hardy, sleep well, and go home satisfied. Truly this is a Bass fishermans dream come true.
