Fishing report for January 26th, 2013
It is always exciting to bring a good fishing report and show pictures of happy fishermen and large fish. However, every trip does not always turn out that way and this one did not. My trip to Lake Mateos in January found the water level higher than last year which was good. We also found many of the commercial fishing nets gone which also was good, but we also found we had a major Hyacinth problem. Some days it took up to an hour to get to a place on the lake where we could fish and we discovered the fish were way back under the Hyacinth and most of the coves were also filled with Hyacinth’s. The Mexican government has released the Hyacinth eating beetles but they are not keeping up with the growth of the plants due to the warm water and weather conditions. Therefore, due to this and the U.S. economic conditions we have chosen to close the camp for the rest of the Season. We will re-evaluate these and other conditions in November of 2013 and decide then about when we will open. We want your trip to Lake Mateos to be a great trip with good food, fellowship and lot’s of fish. Right now we can not provide that for you.

The December rains started on the 15th so far we have received over 3 inches of rain in the last two days. We had no fishermen on the lake this month so they all got away. The lake is still higher then last year.
Well I am off to Mexico. If you would like to go on a hosted trip I will be going down from the 2nd of Jan till the 14th. You can book for as many days as you like. Benny says the lake is great and the fish are waiting for you.

We have already received 43 inches of rain this season and it looks like the lake will be higher than last year. How much higher we do not know yet as it takes awhile for the water to get to the lake, but right now we are only 7% lower than we were in October of last year at the end of the rainy season so things are looking very good.
